The next stage of development work in eastern Porirua is about to get underway, with the announcement of 18 new warm, dry state homes to be built in Cannons Creek.
These 18 new homes are the first homes announced as part of the second stage of work in the area, and will be a range of sizes, from one-bedroom to five-bedroom homes. The homes will be built on existing Kāinga Ora land and, before these new homes can be built, eight existing state houses will be vacated and demolished.
Kāinga Ora – Homes and Communities tenancy liaison officers have been working closely with affected tenants over the past few months to inform them about the development and update them as things progress.
Kāinga Ora will be lodging the first resource consent application in September for the 18 new homes to be built on the site, which has frontage to Niger Street, Castor Crescent and Miranda Street.
Demolition is planned to take place later this year, with site blessings in early 2021, and construction of the new homes to start soon after that.
