Overview

Waitangirua neighbourhood sits on the eastern side of Bothamley Park. Warspite Avenue runs through the middle of Waitangirua linking it to Cannon’s Creek and Rānui town centres.

Waitangirua shows the vibrancy of eastern Porirua with buildings in its town centre decorated with local artwork. These can be seen at the regular Saturday markets.

For the purposes of planning Waitangirua has been divided into two ‘development neighbourhoods’:

  • Waitangirua North
  • Waitangirua South

Vision

Te Rā Nui, Eastern Porirua Development will help to create more opportunities for more local home ownership, new jobs and more businesses to thrive in Waitangirua. We’ll be using the land more efficiently to not only replace the number of older Kāinga Ora homes, but also provide new homes for the Porirua housing market.

There will be a mixture of standalone homes, terrace homes and apartments. The new homes will be warm, dry and healthy, with double glazing, insulation and modern materials and fittings inside and out.

At the same time, Te Rā Nui looks to positively contribute to the total wellbeing of the area, from its people through to its roads, infrastructure, green spaces and waterways. We'll look at ways we can enhance parks and public spaces, providing places for locals to connect, reflect and enjoy Waitangirua.
