Overview

The Cannons Creek neighbourhood sits in the heart of eastern Porirua. It is surrounded by Bothamley Park to the north and a range of parks including Cannons Creek Lakes Reserve to the south. Mungavin Avenue and Warspite Avenue run through the middle of the neighbourhood and help to connect  the residents of Cannons Creek to other town centres in Rānui, and Waitangirua as well as the wider Porirua area.

For the purposes of planning, Cannons Creek has been divided into four ‘development neighbourhoods’:

Vision

Te Rā Nui, Eastern Porirua Development will help to create more opportunities for more local home ownership, new jobs and more businesses to thrive in Cannons Creek. We’ll be using the land more efficiently to not only replace the number of older Kāinga Ora homes, but also provide new homes for the Porirua housing market.

There will be a mixture of standalone homes, terrace homes and apartments. The new homes will be warm, dry and healthy, with double glazing, insulation and modern materials and fittings inside and out.

At the same time, Te Rā Nui looks to positively contribute to the total wellbeing of the area, from its people through to its roads, infrastructure, green spaces and waterways. We'll look at ways we can enhance parks and public spaces, providing places for locals to connect, reflect and enjoy Cannons Creek.

Cannons Creek North East

Bordered by Warspite Avenue, Cannons Creek Park and Bothamley Park, Cannons Creek North East is much like a peninsula in that road access is solely from Warspite Avenue to the south.

Locals enjoy access to Bothamley Park, Cannons Creek Park and Matahourua Park. Russell School is the local school and is in reasonable proximity to Cannons Creek School, Maraeroa School and Porirua College.

Cannons Creek North East is our most advance part of the Development with 53 new homes already delivered in Castor Crescent, and work underway on our Esk, Matahourua, Fantame and Niger sites, which will bring around 170 new homes to the area.

Cannons Creek North West

Bordered by Mungavin Avenue, Rānui, Cannons Creek Park and Bothamley Park. The area is much like a peninsula in that road access is solely from Warspite Avenue to the south.

Locals enjoy access to a number of parks such as Bothamley, Cannons Creek and York Parks, also Thompson Gully Scenic Reserve. Schools in the area include Cannons Creek School, Holy Family School and neighbouring Windley School. There is also Nuanua Kindergarten who care for toddlers.

Cannons Creek North West has seen 14 new social homes open on Champion Street with many more planned.

Cannons Creek South East

Located in close proximity to the Cannons Creek Town Centre, on the southern side of Warspite Avenue, is Te Rā Nui, Eastern Porirua Development’s Cannons Creek South East neighbourhood.

Bordered by a range of public open spaces and reserves to the east, south and west (Waitangirua Park and Reserve, Belmont Park and Cannons Creek Lake Reserve) the area gives a sense of openness and enables a range of short and long-distance views to the wider landscape.

Approximately half of its area is taken by schools, including Porirua College, Maraeroa School, Brandon Intermediate and for our toddler, Toru Fetu and Maraeroa Kindergartens; making this area of Cannons Creek a destination within the wider eastern Porirua area.
