More new warm, dry homes have been delivered in eastern Porirua with the blessing of 14 one-bedroom homes in Champion Street, Cannons Creek today.
The blessing by Ngāti Toa Rangatira kaumatua Taku Parai was attended by partners Ngāti Toa, Porirua City Council, Kāinga Ora – Homes and Communities, along with key stakeholders.
“These 14 new homes are the second lot of homes completed this year in Cannons Creek, following the completion of 10 new homes in Castor Crescent in July,’’ says Porirua Development Project Director Will Pennington.
"The new Champion Street homes are warm, dry, energy efficient one-bedroom apartments, with the front four lower units being accessible homes.
“Kāinga Ora tenancy liaison officers have been working closely with new tenants over the development and everyone who has seen them has been keen to move in as soon as they can,” he says.
So people can view the new homes, Kāinga Ora has created a virual open home so the community can take a look by clicking on the link here.
These homes continue the work by Kāinga Ora and its build partners to provide more homes in eastern Porirua, with more homes coming with the next two lots in Castor Crescent being completed later this year and the final Castor Crescent lot completed early next year.
While COVID-19 has caused some delays in building work, contractors have worked hard to make up time, where possible.
“By early next year Kāinga Ora will have delivered a total of 53 new homes in a range of sizes in Castor Crescent, in addition to these 14 Champion Street homes," Mr Pennington says.
