Later this week, we’ll be launching the draft eastern Porirua Development Spatial Plan at Hui tahi tātou o Porirua. This local two-week event will share what’s planned in eastern Porirua for the next 25 years around key priorities like identity, environment, vibrant centres, neighbourhoods, homes and more.
As part of the hui we’ll be holding a series of talanoa sessions, providing a safe space for the community to learn about our plans, that have been shaped by previous community feedback, and to share their thoughts.
We have several ethnic group sessions planned - Tokelau, Samoa, Fiji, Cook Islands, Rotuma, Tonga, Tuvalu, Kiribati, and Niue - delivered in their native language, if required. Other planned groups include youth, disability, church ministers, rainbow and migrant/refugee communities. Other groups can also be organised as requested.
The aim of these talanoa sessions is to ensure everyone in our community understands what we are planning for the future of eastern Porirua, and has the opportunity to ask questions and provide valuable feedback.
The sessions will be led by the community in partnership with Te Pae Whakahou Hapori (I Porirua Ki Rawhiti) – Eastern Porirua Regeneration Independent Advisory Panel (Te Pae). This is an engagement approach we used successfully in 2019 following the development of the Pacific Engagement Strategy, which resulted in clear feedback that shaped our plans. Through these upcoming talanoa sessions, we hope to see similar levels of community engagement and feedback that will help make the Spatial Plan, and our Porirua community, even better.
Following each engagement session, notes will be typed up and shared with attendees. A final summary report, capturing all the discussions, will be translated and shared with all groups.
