Planning and consenting work is underway for the construction of around 150 new homes in Cannons Creek, with homes for the private market as well as state housing.
Kāinga Ora – Homes and Communities is proposing to build 64 new warm, dry state homes, with a mixture of one, two, three, four and five bedroom homes and the creation of 42 affordable or market homes.
This new development is within the boundaries of Castor Crescent and Calliope Crescent (which includes Esk Place, Hazard Grove, and Remus, Juno, Apollo and Ajax lanes). This will also involve redevelopment of Kāinga Ora’s existing land in this area and reconfiguration of some of the existing roading within the site.
In order to make way for the new homes, 55 of Kāinga Ora’s old state houses will need to be demolished. These homes, which are past their best and not well suited to the needs of families and modern living, will be replaced with new warm, dry energy efficient homes that are fully insulated, with double glazing, and will be built to a higher specification than is required under NZ building standards.
Kāinga Ora – Homes and Communities staff will be working to keep tenants, residents and communities informed about progress and to ensure that the impact of the building work will be managed.
