Bothamley Park Reopening Celebration

Bothamley Park Reopening Celebration

You’re Invited – Let’s Celebrate Bothamley Park’s Big Comeback!

It was clear from early conversations, that protecting and enhancing te taiao (the environment) was a priority for both mana whenua and the community. One way we could make a real difference was to replace the old wastewater pipes which were causing a major issue.

Every year, an estimated 40,000m³ of untreated sewage overflowed into Kenepuru Stream and Te-Awarua-o-Porirua Harbour. To put that into perspective, that’s enough to fill 16 Olympic-sized swimming pools!

To protect te taiao and enable new homes to be built, Te Rā Nui has replaced over 3km of wastewater pipes running through Bothamley Park. These new pipes have been designed to last for generations. They are double the size (900mm wide) and made of more environmentally responsible materials, making them more resilient during natural events such as earthquakes.

A massive thank you to our civil and infrastructure experts, Te Aranga Alliance, including Higgins, Brian Perry Civil, Goodmans, Beca, Orogen, and Harrison Grierson, who completed this complex infrastructure upgrade in just over two years.

Most importantly, a huge thank you to the people of Porirua for your patience and support throughout this project. This important mahi will have lasting benefits for generations to come, ensuring a healthier environment and a stronger, more resilient community.

Join us in the celebration of the reopening of Bothamley Park!
